Artist Bio

Mid-career artist Christina Laurel, a resident of Liberty, SC, will be Newnan ArtRez’s

Artist-in- residence for the month of April. Laurel creates immersive installations in

Japanese shoji paper, which is often printed with images from her two-dimension

artwork. The walk-in installations provide an art experience – an oasis in our world of

sensory bombardment. Laurel uses nature as a reference – e.g., gingko leaf and butterfly,

but while in Newnan, GA, the artist plans to explore the lily pad as the motif for a future

installation.

Laurel was an artist-in- residence at Virginia Center for Creative Arts, Amherst, VA,

2016; Hambidge Center, Rabun Gap, GA, 2015; and Paducah Arts Alliance, Paducah,

KY, 2014. The artist has exhibited widely, received awards and grants, and taught

children to seniors in museum art programs – including “Sketching in the Galleries” at

the invitation of the Greenville County Museum of Art, Greenville, SC. Her most recent

solo exhibit “Remnants” was January/February 2017 in the gallery of the Metropolitan

Arts Council, Greenville, SC.
