Church Goin’ Mule
September
Church Goin Mule is a southern outsider artist who was born and raised across the south, her kinfolk came from the mountains, though she lives in the swamp of Louisiana now. She makes hopeful work for a troubled world. Her work is a memory jug, a mash of the collective southern past, pearls and rusted nails, song and story, lore and loss. Her often painted mule is a reminder of our common ground, the creature that every man, woman and child of all origin knew in a time before t-models and tractors – working in the field six days a week and taking the family to church on the seventh. During her time at Newnan Art Rez she will be busy making art for Finster Fest.
