Jessica Hudgins

June 2018

Though a relatively recent graduate of Johns hopkins MFA program, Hudgins has already published poems in numerous literary journals. While teaching in the Writing Seminars at Johns Hopkins, she also co-ran Hey You, Come Back!, a monthly reading series; worked as an instructor with Writers in Baltimore Schools, a non-profit that offers afterschool workshops to public middle schools in Baltimore; and volunteered with Writing Outside of the Fence, a program for formerly incarcerated individuals. Sir Andrew Motion, Great Britain’s poet laureate from 1999 to 2009, has written admiringly of Jessica’s “deep understanding of traditional forms, and an equally shrewd comprehension of how to break, adapt and stretch them; she also has an ability to process and transmit her strong feelings–so her work is intellectually interesting and emotionally involving in equal measures.”
